Can You Catch the Beginning?
Last week, you started becoming more aware of what your body does. This week, we're going to move that awareness just a little earlier.
Most of the time, we notice a response once it's already happening.
We notice we're holding our breath. Our shoulders are up. Our jaw is tight. Our stomach is bracing.
But there was a moment when that response began.
And sometimes, it begins before we're even doing the thing we're preparing for.
For today
Once or twice, notice yourself before an ordinary moment.
- Before you open an email.
- Before you stand up.
- Before you answer someone.
- Before you start exercising.
- Before you begin something you need to get done.
Don't try to relax.
Don't take a special breath.
And don't try to stop whatever your body might be doing.
Just see if you can catch the beginning.
“When did the effort begin?”
Maybe you notice something. Maybe you don't.
Either way, move on with your day.
Last week was about beginning to recognize what your body does. This week, we're beginning to recognize when it starts doing it.
Once or twice today is enough.
