What if there's something happening that you haven't been able to see on your own?
Let's spend 20 minutes together and see what becomes apparent when we look at what's happening in real time.
Schedule a Discovery SessionMaybe you've already tried to solve this.
You may already know where you hurt.
You may know when you tighten up, what seems to aggravate it, what stresses you and many of the things that are supposed to help.
You may have tried stretching, strengthening, massage, breathing, posture work, stress reduction, physical therapy, chiropractic care or simply trying harder to relax.
Some of those things may even help.
But something keeps returning — or you have the feeling that there's still something you're not seeing.
That's a reasonable place to get curious.
Knowing what's happening isn't always the same as seeing how it's happening.
A video can give you an idea.
An exercise can give you something to try.
But sometimes something different becomes apparent when another person is there with you — watching, listening, asking a question or helping you notice something as it's actually happening.
Not to fix everything.
Not to convince you that I have the answer.
Just to see whether something becomes visible that wasn't obvious when you were trying to figure it out alone.
A 20-Minute Discovery Session
We'll start with a brief conversation about what you've been experiencing and what you've already tried.
But I don't want you to spend the entire session telling me your history.
Depending on what you're dealing with, I may ask you to sit, stand, move, breathe, think about a particular situation or simply notice what's happening while we're talking.
I'm interested in one simple question:
Maybe it does.
Maybe it doesn't.
That's what we're there to find out.
Sometimes it's not another exercise that's missing.
It may be something about how your body is approaching movement, effort, demand or even everyday situations.
Before you move
You might notice your body preparing or bracing for a movement before you've actually begun it.
During ordinary tasks
You might discover that more of your body is joining a task than the task actually requires.
When demand appears
Your breathing, jaw, abdomen, shoulders or pace may change when you concentrate, exercise, work or deal with people.
What you've called “stress”
You might begin to see a more specific pattern underneath something you've simply been calling stress or tension.
How much effort you're using
We may find that your body has become accustomed to using more effort than a situation actually requires.
Or something else entirely
We may discover that what I'm looking for doesn't seem particularly relevant to what you're experiencing — and that's useful information too.
This isn't a mini treatment session.
It's not 20 minutes of exercises.
It's not an assessment designed to diagnose a medical condition.
And it's not enough time for me to promise that I can solve something you may have been dealing with for months or years.
It's an opportunity to discover whether there's another useful way of looking at what's happening.
If there is, we can talk about what exploring that further could look like.
If there isn't, I'll tell you that too.
You don't need to know yet.
That's partly what the session is designed to help us discover.
This may be worth exploring if...
- Your tension or tightness keeps returning.
- You feel better temporarily but can't seem to make the change last.
- Exercise or certain activities leave you feeling tighter rather than better.
- You notice yourself bracing, holding or working harder than you think you should.
- You've tried several approaches and feel like something may be missing.
- You understand some of this intellectually but can't quite see it in yourself.
- You're curious about another way of approaching what's happening.
This probably isn't the right session if...
- You're looking for a diagnosis of a new or unexplained medical problem.
- You primarily want someone to give you a new list of exercises.
- You're looking for a quick technique guaranteed to eliminate your symptoms.
- You need urgent medical care or evaluation.
- You're not interested in observing or exploring what your body may be doing in real time.
Here's how it works.
Choose a time.
Schedule a private 20-minute Zoom session with me.
Tell me what's been happening.
We'll briefly talk about what you're experiencing, when it tends to happen and what you've already tried.
We'll look together.
Rather than only talking about the problem, we'll see what we can observe while it's happening in real time.
We'll decide what we learned.
If something useful becomes apparent, I'll help you understand what I see and what exploring it further might involve.
Maybe there's nothing more you need to try right now.
Maybe we simply need to look at what's already happening a little differently.
If you've been trying to figure this out on your own and you're curious whether there's something you haven't considered, let's take a look together.
