10-Day Tension Reset · Day 1

How Much Effort Is Your Body Using?

Today we're going to explore something that can be surprisingly easy to miss: the extra effort your body may be adding to completely ordinary moments.

There's nothing you need to get right. Follow along as much or as little as feels appropriate today.

What did you just notice?

Standing up doesn't require your jaw to help.

Shifting your weight doesn't necessarily require your stomach to brace.

Washing your hands doesn't need to become a race.

And yet our bodies can quietly add effort that the moment itself doesn't really require.

I call this Hidden Effort.

It's the little bit of extra holding, bracing, pressing, preparing, or trying that can happen underneath completely ordinary moments — often without us realizing it's there.

The goal isn't to relax.

It's very easy to notice tension and immediately turn it into another job:

“Okay. I need to stop doing that.”

That's not what we're practicing here.

For now, we're simply becoming curious about the difference between:

The moment The effort the task actually requires
Your body The effort your body is actually using

Sometimes something may soften simply because you noticed it. Sometimes nothing changes.

Both are useful information.

For the rest of today

Don't monitor yourself all day.

Once or twice is enough.

During some completely ordinary moment, just get curious for a few seconds.

getting out of a chair washing your hands taking a shower doing the dishes walking working waiting in line getting ready
Is my body adding any effort that this moment doesn't really need?

You don't have to immediately correct it.

Give yourself a moment to notice.

Maybe something changes. Maybe it doesn't.

That's enough.

Watch for the switch.

There's a subtle difference between:

“Huh…what is my body doing?”

and

“Okay, I need to make this stop.”

If you notice yourself crossing that line, that's useful information too.

You don't have to fix the fixing.

Today's Conversation

What are you noticing?

There isn't a right observation. Share something that surprised you, something you're curious about, or simply see what other people are discovering.

Where did you notice your body adding effort that surprised you?

What happened when you noticed it without immediately trying to change it?

Share if you'd like. Read along if you'd rather. Participation is completely optional.

That's enough for today.

You don't need to remember everything we did.

Go live your normal day.

Once or twice, just see what becomes noticeable.
